What is Coin Shooting? Coin Shooting is when one searches for valuable coins have been left behind for centuries, and you can find them with your Bounty Hunter metal detector! Coin shooting is an activity enjoyed by thousands of people all over the world. They find coins that others have lost. So can you! Coin Shooting can be done anywhere people are likely to lose coins. Great places to search are your own backyard, schools, parks, churches, beaches and fair grounds. The older the site, the better, because you'll find amazing coins from long ago. Do some research in the library or on the Internet for resources to find the best places in your area. Always ask permission before coin shooting on someone else’s property. Try to picture what the site may have looked like a hundred years ago. Then, patiently search the area- try not to wander. You'll find more coins if you methodically detect the site. Bring a digging device to help you get the coins from the surface. Remember to always leave the site as you found it. If you dig a hole, fill it back in. Please see the code of ethics. Coin Shooting can “dig up” some great finds. A good resource book may help you to identify some of your finds. The Guide Book of U.S. Coins by R.S. Yeoman, called the "Red Book" is the bible of U.S. coin collecting. Any silver coin made before 1964 is prize to metal detectors. Happy shooting!
